The railway industry, one of the three major transportation industries in Europe next to air and road, is under pressure. Shorter innovation cycles in the other transportation industries is causing railway to lose its competitiveness. European rail operators and manufacturers are forced to innovate to compete with new competitors such as long-distance busses, electric cars or Asian rolling stock companies. In order to let European rail survive in intermodal competition, it is crucial to have clear priorities, improved efficiency, most reliable systems and the favor of the customer. The participants of the RAILWAY FORUM Berlin will discuss the measures that need to be taken to maintain the railway industries' competitiveness, and the role of the various actors of the value system to achieve it.
